Ive been pronouncing it like hag in court without the H sound lol
I'm pleased to have heard their names.
Do the family of the dead recieve compensation?
I studied this disaster in college for my fireman’s college course some of the details of the the safety report were heartbreaking ( fireman underground safety official)
Interesting to note that Gerald of Wales noted that the Welsh used bows of Wych Elm . Wych Elm is a superb bow wood whilst common or English Elm is not. Im Sure that these superb welsh archers were furnished with even more superior imported Yew wood bows by the King prior to departure to France.
When was this and will it be again

Humble archers? They were viscious especially at agincourt. Hand to hand combat followed directly after the shooting part of a battle. They didn't just pack up and drink tea whilst watching the men at arms do tje gruesome work. They made up at least 50% of the army.
5/6 of the English army were archers, at most 10% of these archers were Welsh Longbowmen (500 men), over 70% of the army was English Longbowmen.
Odds...my.....bodkins.....
Watching in Denver, Colorado, RIP to all lost at 6 Bells, and peace to the surviving loved ones. Very well-done video.
God Bless America and it’s wonderful people. Greetings from Wales
Coal mining was dangerous, thank God deep mining ended
wow - poignant stuff - Rest in Peace brave miners.
Great video thanks for uploading. Andrew Whittemore is just 🔥🔥🔥
I love the Welsh National Anthem.
Very beautiful memorial video for those who died in 1960.....This older generation is amazeing....im very happy to have found this video....
Some videos need to be longer to really get the feeling of the people who were there and how it affected them. Some things shouldn't be rushed.. God bless all of them.
There were as many archers from Lancashire than there were from Wales, Cheshire had more.
Only 500 out of Henry V's 5,000 - 6,750 archers were Welsh so I would definitely agree with your comment.
Too long. This is the RUclips generation, of instant gratification. Anything over 12 minutes is an immediate fail. See ya.
Good riddance, oh shallow millennial. And the video wasn't all about you or XBOX so it had no value. tisk tisk
Retard you will never be a man,
So, you tube is a bit like sex then. While yer finished in less than twelve minutes. Some of us can go for ages.

I remember my farther saying to me when they read out the names he could see there faces.he was from six bells Cyril. Watkins.
My Grandfather worked down Six Bells, my Mother was pregnant, but overdue by three weeks, so when she finally went into labour, he was notified. He took a holiday to stay close to my Mother, and on the 28th of June 1960 I was born, he said if he would have been working he would have been in the vicinity of the explosion, and could have been killed. I was named after him. His name was David Mitchell.
And this is why Wales voted to leave the EU. SICKENING. RIP and god bless. To those brave men, We are out now and this government will finally remember you.
This happened before the UK joined the EU in 1970s. Get your facts right.
Nick, you're a moron, the UK had far better safety standards than the EEC ever had when we joined in the 70s, safety standards in the EU still lag behind those we have in the UK. These safety laws were made whilst in the EU and we still made our own laws whilst in the EU, how odd...
Are you mad?! a Tory government caring at all about South Wales?!
@@eirugsiongriffiths8563 It was not called the EU then it was the EEC in the 1970's when first formed
@@helgavanovich7611 Like a Labour government caring about Aberfan !
My ancestor was there with my name. My grandfather was Welsh as was his ancestors my ancestor did not die in the fight .

There is a saying in aviation -- I think it applies here as well. "Safety regulations are written in blood".
My grandfather was 29 when he passed away down in the six bells disaster, 3 years older than I am today. Rest in paradise bamp ❤
RIP❣🙏
Also my grandad was in the explosion rip ❤️
From a fellow Welsh man my heart goes out to you. The price of coal was far too much
So sorry for your loss
If you really think an arrow can pierce a piece of armor, check out Tods Workshop. They brought in Joe Gibbs and a 160lb longbow to try.
ruclips.net/video/DBxdTkddHaE/видео.html
They can pierce armor but not plate and the archers hit the horses causing the heavy Frenchmen to be stuck on the floor unable to get up waiting to get slaughtered the success of the archers at this battle can not be disputed no matter how you look at it
This is a terrible example of presenting a disaster to the public view for purpose of understanding what happened. The constant precession of ministers, praying, hymning, towel wringing totally distracts from the facts of what actually happened. There is a mentality that has been growing over the last 20 years that everybody has to be pulled into vortex of misery to share the experience about disasters. I got entirely bored listening to the praying and hymning so I do not know what actually happened at this mine disaster, thanks for nothing!
God help you in your time of distress -- no one else will.
@@bradmiller2329 Your attitude is EXACTLY what is wrong with this world AND PS: I don't pray for you OR anybody, childish and waste of good time!
If you have any real interest, don't whinge here but take the trouble to read the official mines inspectorate report. Some folks seem to want everything served up on a plate. Not hard to find online - took 2 minutes www.dmm.org.uk/pitwork/html/sixbells.htm If you are really concerned, produce your own video, and post it on youtube
@@bigoldgrizzly Oh so sorry I disturbed your view of protocol, Yah, served on plate, when I have my car repaired expect it to be done right...served on plate? If you are going to make videos for public viewing - serve them right or not at all! It is the 'mentality' of the times, 'you must endure my pain with me', am I right or am I right?
@@richardnailhistorical3445 It seems your objection is to the religious beliefs and feelings of others. This video was clearly made primarily as a memorial to those who died, recording the impact and continuing effects on the community of this terrible disaster and also to record the basic facts of the disaster for those who do not know. If you prefer a purely dry factual approach, read the official report. If you have your car repaired you are commissioning and paying for a service and have the right to have the work done to your satisfaction. You did not commission or pay for this video, so can only take as it is, or move on to other sources. The likes and dislikes for this video tell their own tail
Its possible that the Welsh longbow could be thousands of years old this longbow could have been used by hunter gatherers who knows!
"Cofio Gwenllian" They were used by Rhodri Mawr prince of Gwynedd all over Wales against the Invasion of the Normans, English and Scandinavian mercenaries on the 3 attempts the Normans tried to take Wales. Wales won while shouting the battle cry "Cofio Gwenllian" Gwenllian was the Daughter of Rhodri Mawr. She and her young sons was killed protecting Wales against the Invasion while her husband went to get Rhodri Mawr.

Nothing more beautiful than a Welsh male voice choir - An English son of a Stoke mining family.
From a Stoke Miner. Absolutely - - fitting music for such a tragic story. Went to many choir evenings at Old Victoria theatre and other local halls
Many historians ignore or try to disprove the importance of the Welsh contribution.

Pretty sure the english men at arms/knights did quite a lot too...
Donavan Caton + Nothing at all according to this, but then lets not let history get in the way.
Yep and likely sensibly equipped with pole arms, warhammers and maces rather than the pretty useless but romantic swords of the french
Yes they had a significant role in the battle. They protected the archers and they also had a significant role during the melée
As well as the thousands of English longbowmen.
@@ggarlick46 The ratio at Agincourt was 500 Welsh Longbowmen to 4,500-6,250 English Longbowmen. 23 Welsh Men at Arms to 975-1,325 English Men at Arms.
The arrows could punch through the sides of the armour.
Not full plate, but it has enough breath holes or they targeted the horse.
What utter shite nonsense.
Don't mess with the Welsh..... Love it
@MichaelKingsfordGray whats your problem? 😂
Olivia. Yes but they learnt skills from the Welsh.
@@oliva6352 well Known that Welsh archers were superior

Old depictions and sources show that armies did not shoot high, say 45 degree angle, but close to straight forward on closer range. The hail of arrows from above seems to be a fantasi of modern times and Hollywood. So the many shots in this video of firing in a high angle is probably not historically correct.
Seen loads of documentaries about this battle and one thing they often demonstrate is that an arrow cannot effectively penetrate plate armour.
They can when the heads are sharpened properly. Everyone tests them unsharpened which is a joke. The arrow heads were sent to grinders all around the country to be sharpened TO a razor edge
@@lukeoconnor1201 they cannot pierce through plate. If they can, france would not had won the hundred years war. And also the french would not have gotten close and fought them into a melee. They could pierce the armors but not plate.
You're right ruclips.net/video/DBxdTkddHaE/видео.html
Most mediaval illustrations denote some arrows piercing the thinner back plates . The archers knew they would be shooting point blank that's the reason they inserted sharpened wooden steaks directly in front of them at Crecy,Poitiers and Agincourt. Clearly horses and armoured horsemen had to turn on reaching the steaks or where thrown to the ground .. at this point archers were using heavy bows ,heavy arrows at point blank ranges at the much thinner back and side plates. This sounds awful ..why waste your arrows on a 4 mm thick breath plate when you can hit the horse which intern threw the occupant.
Interesting article , however when discussing Wales and it's mens contribution to Agincourt, you have to mention Daffid Gam (apologies if I have spelt his name wrong and for not giving his full name , im English ) . He was not someone you would want to upset . Part of his legend was he could kill a man with one blow of his war hammer. He was knighted by Henry as he lay dying having saved Henry's life at Agincourt.
4:16 What on earth are those socks🤦♂️
"Agincourt 600 Wales The Welsh longbowmen" Does this even make sense? Yards, metres ... The usual mishmash
Great video keep up the good work.
I would like to see a demonstration of such an arrow piercing plate armor. In every test I have seen, good plate is proof against literally any arrow fired from crossbow or longbow. If you have a link to such a demonstration, I'd love to see it.
In manuscripts I have seen most illustrations of arrows piercing plate armour are through the thinner plates , example the back plates not the thicker breast plates etc. Unfortunately most tests seem to concentrate on the breastplate etc. We must remember that the horses were driven mad by arrows and on reaching the sharpened line of steaks infront of the archers , many horses threw their riders or turned giving the archers a point blank aim at the weaker armour.
Wasn't very sporting of the English to murder the French Knights who felt that they would be held for ransom...
Jeff Smith + The French flew the Oriflamme on the battlefield, it indicated that no quarter was to be given, not to sporting of them was it mucker.
Welsh! The Longbow men were Welsh. The English and Welsh weren't the same. Wales and England weren't connected by law until the mid 1500s
@@WalesTheTrueBritons + A few were Welsh, not many, most were English, only have to look at the records from the time.
@@WalesTheTrueBritons You are mistaken, and nevertheless even if this statement was correct Henry V was King of England, all of his side can be called English troops regardless of were they originated, Henry V was King of England, not King of the United Kingdom. Henry V had 6,000 -8,100 men at Agincourt, about 5⁄6 were archers meaning 5,000 - 6,750 archers; it's a fact that 500 archers and 23 men-at-arms travelled from Wales to France to fight alongside Henry V. The above shows us that at most 10% of Henry V's archers at Agincourt were from Wales; Longbow practice was compulsory for every male in England aged between 15 and 60, the first law to this effect was passed in 1252, 163 years before Agincourt therefore the English had been training compulsorily with the Longbow for 6 or 7 generations by the time of Agincourt. All I can say is: truth before opinions.
@@WalesTheTrueBritons No they were not. Only about 10 percent of the archers were Welsh at Agincourt. Youre mixed up with the battle of Crecy almost a hundred years earlier where about 40 percent of the archers were Welsh. I think a lot of so called Historians do this as well.
a few lads there i think i've seen riding the CX series this year
